CELEBRATING A GREAT YEAR END IN ECL STYLE

The end-of-year BBQ saw for the first time the ECL athletes and big wigs in Commercial and Construction battle it out on the cricket field for a thrilling summer end-of-year match at Kislingbury Cricket Club in Northampton.

A great year end for ECL
A great year-end for ECL

Steve Tysoe headed the Commercial team with Sean Hoare, Captain of the Construction team. Matt Thornton and James Brennan, who were all prepared to spectate and enjoy a few bevvies, were great sports, joining the Construction team at the last minute to help make up numbers.

There was an impressive turnout of ECL spectators, and whilst they kicked back and enjoyed the refreshments, with porn star martini’s going down a treat with some of the ladies, the players took to the green.

The sun shone as both teams competed with great enthusiasm and a fair amount of competitive banter.  James Brennan, who had never played the game before, did what could have been described as one of the greatest catches of the game, catching Steve Tysoe out in the first half and then miraculously drop-catching the ball.  The reaction of both teams was hilarious.

There was some debate on whether it was a tactical play by James. The jury may be out on that one, but either way, James has a job for life 🙂

James remarked

“It was a really good evening, but I don’t think I’ll be getting the call up again anytime soon..”

The match was truly entertaining and memorable for all, with an impressive display of talent from both sides.

Steve added

“The Commercial team lost the toss and were put into bat and lost two quick wickets but recovered to post a challenging 135 for the loss of five wickets from their twenty overs.

With a quick turnaround, the construction battled but was always behind pace, and it finished on 98, all out in fading light.

But the night was all about the ECL get together and the taking part and was well-received by all judging by the bar tab!”

MAN OF THE MATCH

All players put in a stellar performance, but the ‘Man of the Match’ went to Sean Finn.

Sean Hoare, The Captain of the Construction team, thanked all his team members for their enthusiasm and congratulated the Infrastructure team.

As the winning team’s captain, Steve Tysoe gave a visibly happy victory speech, commended everyone for showcasing tremendous skill and enthusiasm on the playing field, and applauded the organisers for their exceptional event organisation.

The event ended with a well-deserved outside BBQ for all, where drinks and conversation flowed to celebrate and send off another excellent working year.
