Another great rookie year 2023

ECL's Golf Society

ECL’s Golf Society sees another rookie year coming to an end, and what a year!

2023 has witnessed the guys playing in all kinds of weather, from high winds and torrential rain to brilliant sunshine. Much like the weather, the form for many (excluding Connor Bream, of course) has been equally erratic, but the one constant that cannot go unmentioned is the upbeat spirit and banter the guys have brought to each and every match. Our society members are genuinely one of a kind and have made this year’s match play a monumental success.

On 10th June, the society played a Texas scramble won by the Misfits team comprising of Connor Bream, Francis Gillespie, Lee Babb and Kim Hattingh.

Ian Johnson quipped, “It was a great team effort masterminded by Francis Gillespie. Having some of the highest handicaps all in one team also helped”

The next match was played on 15th July at Cainhoe golf course. Amid high winds and rain, Gareth Llewellyn skillfully claimed the win.

On 26th August, the team played at the Luton Hoo Golf course, with Connor Bream winning his first match with the society.

The final game for the year was played on 30th September at Whipsnade Golf Course, where Connor Bream sealed victory once again, demonstrating that he’s the man to beat.

“These two victories were only because I had played so poorly earlier on in the year that my handicap had increased massively. I don’t think it will happen again, but I’m looking forward to next year” added Bream, about his wins.

The leaderboards are still in contention, with new match dates to be set for April next year, where the season’s winner will be announced in Summer 2024.

Once again, we’d like to extend our sincere appreciation to Ian Johnson, who has done a great job organising the Golf Society events this year.
